Conveniently located only 1 kilometer off the Costanera highway, our location allows quick and easy access to beaches, grocery stores, restaurants, banks, and adventures. The town of Uvita and the lovely beaches of Playa Ballena, Playa Colonia, and Playa Hermosa are a 5 minute drive from your casita. Dominical, the popular surf town with its funky bohemian beach bar vibe, is only a 10 minute drive north.

Our southern Pacific zone, known as Costa Ballena (Whale Coast), has just recently been "discovered" and is now easily accessible by a newly paved road and highway from the capital city of San Jose. You can also take a 30 minute flight by plane to Quepos (XQP) or Palmar Sur (PMZ) from San Jose (SJO). Nature Air and Sansa are 2 regional airlines that have flights from SJO to Quepos, which is 45 minutes north of Uvita and Palmar Sur, which is a 45 min drive South of Uvita

The Talamanca mountain range slopes right down to our pristine palm lined beaches making for spectacular scenery. Our Costa Ballena and the Osa Peninsula further south are being promoted as the "last undiscovered and most bio-diverse area in Costa Rica".

Helpful Travel Hints

To help make your trip go smoothly from either the San Jose or Liberia airport, we offer some helpful information below.

The total driving time from San Jose to Casitas Del Rio is about 3 and 1/2 hours. From Liberia airport, the driving time is about 5 and 1/2 hours.

We recommend you rent a 4x4 vehicle. The main highways are paved, as is much of the road to our casitas, but you will need a 4x4 to get to some of the more out of the way wonderful local restaurants, beaches and waterfalls in our area. If your flight into San Jose or Liberia arrives after 1pm, and you are driving yourself, we highly recommend that you spend the night in the San Jose or Liberia area and then drive to our southern Pacific coast the next morning. Driving at night if this is your first trip to Uvita can be challenging.
