His life Mantra has been, “You can’t light the paths of others without also lighting your own path!” His ventures vary from developing an international yo-yo team to pioneering the sport of Kiteboarding. Traveling to schools to spread a positive motivational message for kids hidden in explosive yo-yo routines! Starting a kite store in Kansas, led him to the ocean to open the first kiteboarding school in the world on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. His love for plants and health drew him into studying Holistic Health for 5 years. Master herbalist, nutritional consultant, certified in Energy Medicine, & operated an eco-tour company in the Turks & Caicos Islands.

We had a wonderful time at Casitas Del Rio! It was the "green season" while we were there, and we were treated to an amazing nature show, including an owl checking us out at night while we sat out on the porch, toucans, humming birds, butterflies of all shapes, colors, and sizes, tortoises, and more. Steve, Rachel, and pup Rio are gracious hosts, and the casitas elegant and thoughtfully designed, and nestled in a private little valley just 5 minutes from town and the beach. Each casita features a porch overlooking the river Morete, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring the surf breaks and other attractions in the area. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

Our jungalow was amazing. It was so comfortable; beatutifully furnished. We opened our door to a beautiful view, which included the river, where we bathed in the natural 'spa' every morning before starting our day. It was soooo peaceful and relaxing....at one with nature. Our holiday was how we made it. We did relax but we also surfed, ziplined, river tubed, ate at some fantastic places, and picnicked at the nearby beach too.
If there is anything you want to do, or need speak to Rachel and Steve. They are lovely hosts and made sure we were settled and had everything we needed.

"A little corner of paradise! Where to start? My wife and I booked this vacation because we wanted to stay somewhere to unwind. Having visited Costa Rica before, we knew a little about the hot tourist spots and what kind of crowds those places attracted. but we wanted rest and relaxation, and Casitas del Rio delivered. A clean cabin, beautiful gardens, sparkling clear river complete with waterfalls and gracious hosts were all a part of the package. I could have spent the entire time just chilling on the porch, but my wife wanted to see the sights of the southern zone, and that's where this place really shines. Everything you could possibly want to see or do is 30 min. Or less away. Great eateries, beautiful beaches, several cascading waterfalls, exotic birds and animals, you name it, it's all very abundant around Uvita.
Axel and Karen went out of there way to make this the best experience possible. He even made us some of his special Juka (sp) the last night we were there. Yum! All I can add at this point is that we are looking forward to our return trip next January. Puranas Vidal! Todd & Kari
