Hello we are Rachel and Steve, your hosts and very proud owners of Casitas Del Rio.
Having both recently retired from the British Army (Rachel as an Education and Training Officer and Steve as a Sports and Recreational Manager), we were searching for our next big adventure. We both love meeting new people, hearing their interesting stories and having new experiences.
In our personal life and careers we travelled to many places around the world and dreamed of finding the perfect place to settle down and combine our interest in people and nature and own a boutique guest house. Leaving the British Army after 26 years, Steve joined the Australian Army and served 3 years. On leaving Australia, in preparation for our next move, he re-trained as a professional butler at The International Butler Academy in the Netherlands. He was then employed at the world renowned Savoy hotel in London as a personal Butler to the rich and famous dealing with Royalty and Hollywood stars from around the world. His professional service as a Butler instilled the high standards expected for ensuring guests receive the service they expect.
When looking for the idyllic location to visit or settle in, everything we read about Costa Rica said we should come and explore this amazing eco-friendly country, so we did. After doing a bit of backpacking around and meeting the wonderfully friendly local people, we decided the beautiful Costa Ballena was the most exhilarating, charming, relaxing place we had ever come across.
We enlisted the help of the United Kingdom TV show called ‘A Place in the Sun’ (known as house-hunters International in warmer climates) to find us the place we had dreamed of. The research team combed the area and found the perfect place for us in Casitas Del Rio, just outside Uvita. We bought the place with the 3 gorgeous casitas in a heart-beat.
We fell in love with Casitas del Rio, the ‘little houses on the River’ the moment we saw them, and we are sure you will too. It is the perfect get away from it all; peace, quiet and tranquillity combined with the soothing sound of the river.

We had a wonderful time at Casitas Del Rio! It was the "green season" while we were there, and we were treated to an amazing nature show, including an owl checking us out at night while we sat out on the porch, toucans, humming birds, butterflies of all shapes, colors, and sizes, tortoises, and more. Steve, Rachel, and pup Rio are gracious hosts, and the casitas elegant and thoughtfully designed, and nestled in a private little valley just 5 minutes from town and the beach. Each casita features a porch overlooking the river Morete, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring the surf breaks and other attractions in the area. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

Our jungalow was amazing. It was so comfortable; beatutifully furnished. We opened our door to a beautiful view, which included the river, where we bathed in the natural 'spa' every morning before starting our day. It was soooo peaceful and relaxing....at one with nature. Our holiday was how we made it. We did relax but we also surfed, ziplined, river tubed, ate at some fantastic places, and picnicked at the nearby beach too.
If there is anything you want to do, or need speak to Rachel and Steve. They are lovely hosts and made sure we were settled and had everything we needed.

"A little corner of paradise! Where to start? My wife and I booked this vacation because we wanted to stay somewhere to unwind. Having visited Costa Rica before, we knew a little about the hot tourist spots and what kind of crowds those places attracted. but we wanted rest and relaxation, and Casitas del Rio delivered. A clean cabin, beautiful gardens, sparkling clear river complete with waterfalls and gracious hosts were all a part of the package. I could have spent the entire time just chilling on the porch, but my wife wanted to see the sights of the southern zone, and that's where this place really shines. Everything you could possibly want to see or do is 30 min. Or less away. Great eateries, beautiful beaches, several cascading waterfalls, exotic birds and animals, you name it, it's all very abundant around Uvita.
Axel and Karen went out of there way to make this the best experience possible. He even made us some of his special Juka (sp) the last night we were there. Yum! All I can add at this point is that we are looking forward to our return trip next January. Puranas Vidal! Todd & Kari
